Or at least in your home! Welcome to 45 days of Christmas magic. There are a few big "get organized, get ready, be prepared for the holidays this year" countdown calendars on the net. I am adding mine as well. There are three big premises to my holiday calendar:
- chip away at necessary chores a bit each day so they are doable, and so they don't take away from our family togetherness
- create traditions and memories that my family will cherish
- arrange things in a practical way to get the most peace and enjoyment out of the season (NOT to be superwoman who is usually stressed to the max and is the very opposite of a blessing to her family!)
When I was little, my mother made the holidays so lovely. She would decorate every surface of our home and make everything so beautiful. She would spend hour upon hour in the kitchen, filling our home with delicious smells and yummy treats. She and my dad created traditions that I still remember so fondly.
But I also remember how stressed she was, how she spent so much time cooking and cleaning trying to please company, when I really wanted her to sit down and enjoy the season with me. I came to fear company and holidays because I knew my mother was going to go into frantic mode.
Now that I am adult, I understand. There is just so much to do and sure, we do want to please company. But I truly believe we can get things done, have a presentable home, cook and decorate, and still be a blessing to our families throughout all of this! So that's what this calendar is all about. I recently saw on the cover of a magazine "249 simple ideas for the holiday season". 249 ideas? Really? Society seems to scream at me from all sides: do more, spend more, be busy, busy, busy. How about a simple calendar with rich traditions, lovely homemaking, healthy but simple homemade meals and goodies, and lots of peace and faith and togetherness thrown in there - after all, this is what everyone says they want this season, right? Join us this season and simplify your life, enjoy your family, and build your faith this Thanksgiving and Christmas!
