45 Days of Holiday Cheer

There are a few "get organized, to do checklist, be prepared for the holidays this year" kind of calendars on the web. I am adding one that is all about not getting overwhelmed yet getting everything done, making sweet memories with your family and friends, and cooking healthy but simple meals. Click on the side banner to the right to go to a listing of the posts for this calendar. The fun starts this Thursday, November 11.

I have arranged the calendar of to-do's, meals, traditions and holiday activities to be very practical and efficient. For example, meals consist of dinners you can make huge batches of to freeze for another meal, dinners you can throw into the crock-pot and forget, and the like. This way you have time to spend with your family rather than in front of a stove every night. Another example is St. Nicholas Day, which is December 6. Many families celebrate by reading the real story of St. Nick and giving a trinket gift or two to the kids. We give two presents to each child on St. Nicholas Day and they are very practical - they work for us for other Christmas occasions. The first gift is nice new jammies, usually holiday or winter decorated. We then wear them to bed on Christmas Eve, ensuring nice cute jammied kids for the photos on Christmas morning. The second St. Nick gift is a holiday ornament, which is special and then adds to our Christmas tree.
